If you are being suspected or charged with a crime
Here are a few simple steps that you need to take:
Don’t Panic! Being suspected or charged with a crime can be overwhelming but do not let that force you into making a bad decision. The Ram Law Firm is here to help and will be able to guide you through the process. Selecting the best lawyer is the most important decision you can make. Don’t make the mistake of picking the first lawyer who was available to take your phone call. The best lawyers are in high-demand but they are worth waiting for a call back.
Contact our office as soon as you can – The Ram Law Firm wants to help get you information as soon possible so that you can know what your rights are and how we can help. We respond to all inquiries as soon as possible. We hope to speak with you or respond immediately, but if we are in court, we will get back to you as soon as we are available. We will set up a time for you to speak in person at the earliest time available.
Do not speak with anyone else about your case – You have heard it said that “Anything you say can be used against you.” It is true! Do not agree to speak with the police, prosecutors or anyone about your case without a lawyer present. You must make certain that your rights are protected. Clearly and simply state, “I want a lawyer. I do not wish to speak with anyone until I have a lawyer.” And then do not allow anyone to convince otherwise.
Do not consent to allow anything to be searched or taken – The police or prosecution may ask you to give permission for a search or to provide items like mobile telephones or computers. Do not agree to any of these requests until after you have asked your lawyer. You are not required to give your permission and rarely does the state want these items to prove your innocence. Additionally, when you give them consent to search, the police can then look for any violation of the law even if it was not what they were originally searching for. By not giving permission, the police are forced to get legal permission for any search, and we can contest that in court later.
